ASP.NET and WinForms Charting – 6 New Charts and more on the way (Coming in v2011 vol 1)

DXperience v2011.1 will bring you a number of new chart types, in this post we are going to look at three of them: Stacked Line, Full-Stacked Line and Step Area. Each of these has a specific use and type or data view that it is particularly good at illustrating.

Stacked Line Chart

The Stacked Line Chart will be available in both 2D and 3D

Stacked-Line-Chart-New  Stacked-Line-Chart-3d-New

The Stacked Line Chart is good at showing the trend of multiple series over time/category.

Full-Stacked Line Chart

The Full-Stacked Line Chart will also be available in both 2D and 3D

Full-Stacked-Line-Chart-2D-New  Full-Stacked-Line-Chart-3D-New

Like the Stacked Line Chart the Full-Stacked Line Chart is good at showing the trend of multiple series over time/category. Additionally what the Full-Stacked Line Chart shows the percentage comparison of the individual series to the whole.

Step Area Chart

As with the previous charts the Step Area Chart will also be available in 2D and 3D.

Step-Area-2D-New  Step-Area-3D-New

The Step area chart is similar to a line chart in that it allows you to see the rate of change across a given time frame or set of categories. Though it differs in that the “steps” draw attention to the changes in data versus being smoothed out or obscured with a line. Also the fact that it is an area also allows you to clearly see the boundaries  and at a glance identify all of the data contained within a highlighted range.

Conclusion

As mentioned in the title these are just a sampling of the new chart types coming to you in v2011.1. Stay tuned to learn more about the exciting additions to charting coming in DXperience 2011 vol. 1

Pretty cool :) Good job guys.

Would be awesome if we could get a Grid chart (for example to display matrices).

How about function lines? Such as best fit, trend, etc. ?

Am I being dense here, what's the difference in a "stacked line" chart and an xy chart with multiple series?

Nicholas: An X-Y chart takes two sets of values, each having a common axis and plots them against each other. Such as plotting Sales versus Temperature in a scatter plot. A stacked line behaves lick a stacked area, with the chart control automatically stacking the values for you.

Thanks everyone!

Marcin: Displaying a tabular data is possible, through our reporting suite. You can combine both tabular and chart easily. And in terms of trendlines and things like that we provide some indicators, but adding your own is straightforward. Let me know if you'd like further details about anything!
