XPO the Philosophy

ORMPhilPart1Currently Oliver and I are across in the Glendale office working with our videographer Jeff (hey how come Jeff doesn’t have a blog?!) creating some videos around XPO and XAF. In the first of the videos we’ve produced, I’m chatting to Oliver about the philosophy behind ORMs in general and XPO in particular. If you are not put off by the thought of looking at Oliver and me for 15 minutes then you can watch the video here.

it struck me odd as well to see the powerbook front and center, giving the platform of the company. i am switching to a mac soon, so who am i to argue, but perhaps this image on videos should be reconsidered? Not a huge issue, but sometimes perception is a funny thing..

Well, I hope perception is that we're a flexible company which is not locked into any specific technology exclusively. In any case that's why I'm using a Mac right now, and since it allows me to develop for the Windows platform just as well as a machine running Windows natively, I don't think there's any problem...

how about supplying wmv files of the epsiodes on tv.devexpress.com so that they can be downloaded. The flash player keeps pausing for me whilst it buffers suffificent content to play, I also tend to watch videos at Fast speed in media player so long as the person is still intelligible.

Quoting Oliver Sturm : "Well, I hope perception is that we're a flexible company which is not locked into any specific technology exclusively."

It would indeed be a great thing if your winforms components were close to 100% compatible with mono, so that your products wouldn't be locked into any specific OS (Windows in this case).  This would give you a serious advantage over your competitors.

My 2€cents. Cheers.

Oliver, question on your Mac machine. Did you partition your hard disk for Mac and Windows and each boots separately?

If yes, does Windows recognize all the Mac hardware as if it was designed to run Windows, like other computers, i.e. Dell, HP, Toshiba?

Secondly, or is the Windows running on the top of Mac OS? And if yes, how is the performance?

Thanks!

..Ben

Tarik,

Yeah, it would be great if things were as easy for actual products as they are for general mindset (not that things are really easy in that area)... but Mono compatibility is one of the things I hope to look into in the future, as I have time.

Ben,

I'm using Mac OS X on the machine and VMWare Fusion to run Windows. The performance of Windows is nothing short of amazing in that setup.
