  • BASTA, Germany - .NET Everywhere!

Gary Busy on the BASTA BoothXAF, CodeRush and German Sausages

Evangelist’s Log. Star date: twenty-three zero nine. .NET architecture and application lifecycle management, Visual Studio, database solutions, web application development … BASTA has it all. With a formidable line-up of speakers and a seemingly endless supply of beer and German sausages (bratwurst, frankfurter and wiener have been identified so far) the attendees at this Autumn’s BASTA event are really spoilt for choice.

    The Conference

We’ve reached the half way point here this week and it has been a great event to have experienced, although I must admit, my German skills have certainly been noted as somewhat lacking by the locals! The conference is being held in the Rheingoldhalle (Rheingold Hall) in Mainz. It is a beautiful setting, with the Rheine right outside the door of the conference. The morning drive has been fantastic for the past few days with the sun shimmering on the water as we drive along the banks of the river towards our day’s work. What better way to set yourself up for a day.Big Crowds Watching CodeRush

What Have We Been Up To?

Gary and I have been discussing products, questions and future plans with our customers and introducing new folk to the DevExpress way of life. Much to our surprise, the runaway success of our time at BASTA so far has been XAF. Gary has been in his element talking enterprise-level design concepts, department scale projects and what the product team has in store for XAF during 2010. We were also thrilled to hear that one customer had saved his organisation 10,000 Euro by choosing the XtraPivotGrid for their implementation over an alternative POC offering. Astounding!

Oliver has presented on various topics including The Future of C#, Immutable Data and Functional Programming, and the attendees have been showing their enthusiasm for CodeRush and Refactor! Pro as always, with demos (in German!) gathering the crowds.

We’re off to get back to the matter in hand now … are there any more sausages to be had?

  • DX Press “Complete the Tweet” Contest

Our bi-monthly newsletter is shipped out to all of our customers to keep you abreast of the latest DevExpress announcements, news items and community news. We’re always keen to hear what you think about what we’re up to and how the DevExpress products are progressing, and we like to have a little fun with it along the way …

This fortnight’s newsletter sees the first of our DX Press “Complete the Tweet” contests.

We’ve got TEN $25.00 iTunes vouchers to give away (and the equivalent for those outside of the US, don’t worry we’ve not forgotten about you). We’re looking for your real-life, comedy outtake, bacon-saving, jaw-dropping colleagues’ comments on your favourite DevExpress products.

    Here’s the format:Twitter Bird Image

    1) Complete the tweet “ [ProductX] is my favourite DX product because …”
    2) Tag your tweet #DXCTT1 (if you don’t tag it, we can’t find it, and if we can’t find it your tweet genius can’t win)
    3) Members of our DX Squad will pick their favourite 10 tweets to win
    4) Entries can be submitted up to and including Monday 28th September. We’ll announce the winners in issue 12 of DX Press - the DevExpress newsletter

Remember, your tweet can be ground-breaking, searing insights into why XtraReports rock your world, or they can be off the wall, life-saving stories of how the ExpressQuantumGrid made you your millions … make the DevExpress team laugh, make us think, and make us talk about your tweet!

Good luck everyone, we’re looking forward to your tweets!

  • BASTA 2009 – DevExpress Evangelists Go … Deutsch?

The conference agenda for Europe is pretty packed for the next few months. Øredev will be bringing some top speakers to Sweden from 2nd – 6th November, and then TechEd Europe rolls into Berlin, Germany a week later. Oliver, Gary and I will be jetting about Europe like air miles are going out of fashion for the next few months!

First up though is BASTA. This will be my first time at this event and I am really looking forward to it. Germany is real hotbed for amazing developers, and this conference aims to bring them all together for a week of top class content from the likes of Markus Egger, Dino Esposito, Ingo Rammer and our very own Oliver Sturm.

That’s right folks, BASTA is *the* place to be.

DevExpress will be exhibiting in the Expo Hall with all the usual swag, demos and witty banter that you would expect. If you’re lucky you might even catch me showing you how to use three German sausages to enhance performance in CodeRush and Refactor! Pro … What’s that Oliver…? No foodstuffs on the stand?! Oh shucks, maybe another time then.

If you’re attending the event drop by and see us at the booth!
