WinForms Rich Text Editor - Table of Contents (available now in v2011, volume 1)

We're introducing a new table of contents feature in 2011, volume 1! You will soon be able to automatically add, update, and control your table of contents in the RichEdit Control!

How do you create a Table of Contents?

First, you need to set up your heading levels, which you can do from the References tab. Just highlight the text, set the level:

and then you click Table of Contents, or Update Table:

and Voila! A table of contents. :-)

Setting up headings as digits of pi is not required, though. ;)

I wonder sometimes if all these features in the richedit control will be ever used

If the user want soficticated text editing use ms word or other !!!

Where devx is going with all this I never  even read a suggestion about that !!!

Hi Hedi,

I think this is a great feature as this offers the user a easy and comprehensive way to create documents or reports which can also be easily modified programmatically. Using MS Word with COM is much more difficult and not really integretated in your software.

Nice addition. Won't be used for my purposes as my XtraRichEdit is used for letters, not complete documents.

Blog about the Master-Detail mail merge please :)

Nate -- :) Soon, I promise.

Hedi -- Like Stefan said, it's much easier to incorporate a full programmatic solution with DevExpress components than it would be to do so with Word. We're just trying to make it as easy, fast, and fun as we can with each new release. :)

I agree with Nate.

I use this control for mail-merge and form letters where I need a bit more control over the formatting than the reports suite gives me.

If the user needs complex letters/forms I get them to design them first in Word then I bring them over and convert for use in their main applications.

It would be nice to have a blog/article/video on start to finish, master/detail mail-merge using the XtraRichEdit control.

Just my five pennith.

This is definitely interesting. We have customers with various Word processing apps (MS Word, OpenOffice, ...). Thanks to the RichEdit, we are able to give all our customers a workable solution in 1 go. If they continue developing this gem, I know some customers won't bother installing Word or OpenOffice at all!

I agree with Sigurd.  As much functionality that they can add to the XtraRichEdit is great!  Having the ability to incorporate a full 'MS Word' like editor can bring a lot of power into certain applications.  Thanks DevExpress!

Good news! I also think this TOC feature is a nice feature, because end users in some customers may don't need Microsoft Word any more, if import/export and edit features are all available in XtraRichEdit. This is a naturally integrated document processing solution for some end users to cut cost.

The more features XtraRichEdit provide like Microsoft Word, the better for some end users who have to use Microsoft Word occasionally.

The enhanced XtraRichEdit can also saves some end users' time, because they don’t have to switch between applications for just copy and paste.

Great feature, we use the component for creating full documents/reports and do NOT want to use Word. So it is really, really welcome!
