eXpress Presentation Framework: XPF - v2010 vol 1

As the release of DXperience v2010.1 is approaching, I thought I’d share some info about the new controls and new features that have made it into v2010.1.

But first things first. What is XPF? Simply put, as of v2010.1, we have merged our codebases for Silveright and WPF into one - XPF (short for eXpress Presentation Framework). This merge effort started with our Editors library earlier on (9.1+) and is now completed in v2010.1.

Does this mean that eventually every DX Control from WPF will be available in Silverlight and every Ag Control from Silverlight will be available in WPF? The answer is yes. Apart from a small number of controls that are developed for a specific platform, we will deliver the same controls with the same base API for both platforms.

This also means that we will be able to deliver even more controls and features faster. Not only because of the same codebase but because from now on, features will be released by the product teams instead of the platform teams.

In short, more features, better docs, better support.

Welcome to XPF :)

I was very excited when I heard about this as it clearly makes the idea of larger/quicker feature releases a reality.

WPF and SL have been growing up over the last couple of years and has been interesting to see how people "target" this growth, I think DX's slow and steady planning will pay off as other vendors will have a massive amount of work to refactor their libraries, whereas DX has been a bit slower off the mark but will pay off as their focus will be on a more mature target.

Well Done.

For a second, I was hoping XPF is XAF with Silverlight and WPF front end. Oh well. This is definitely step in the right direction.

Excellent news guys! This is the right way to go. Will you incorporate a SL presentation layer in XAF at what point exactly? I can't wait to put my hands on it.

And will you be supporting SL for the mobile world in any way?

Keep up the good work!

It's the first step to migrate XAF?

What will this mean for those who currently use ag or wpf? Is it going to be a hassle for us to migrate? :) I assume Ag and Wpf will just be made obsolete?

Thanks,
