WinForms Tree List Control – Advanced, Yet Very Simple

Developer Express has a direct replacement for nearly all the Common Controls that ship with Visual Studio. While these small controls and editors are identical in their main functionality, they offer numerous enhancements and features that make them work better with data and other DevExpress controls in your application. One such example is theming. All DevExpress Editors (Buttons, Checkboxes, ComboBoxes, etc…) support the Look & Feel Technology which enables you to instantly add skinning support throughout your entire application.

The control that I want to specifically talk about today is our TreeList Control for WinForms. This is a very unique component that by default supports many advanced features that are missing from or if not impossible to implement using the Microsoft TreeView Control.

We call it a “TreeView-Grid Hybrid” due its powerful features such as Hierarchical Data Relationship Representation, Advanced Data Filtering & Sorting, Multiple Data Columns, LookAndFeel Skinning and more. But what if you don’t need any of those advanced features and just want to use our TreeList instead of the TreeView Control only to take advantage of the application-wide skinning? Is it possible to use the TreeList Control as a simple, single-column Tree View?

It sure is! Our components are highly customizable to fit your every need and to demonstrate this, we have put together a video that walks you through the steps of altering the appearance of a DevExpress TreeList control so that it resembles a conventional tree view in both appearance and behavior, with no added visual distractions.

I used this as a drop-in replacement for the Microsoft control and had very good success with it, thanks.
