DX Airways - Website Layout & Navigation

In the last videos, we looked at the architecture of “DX Airways” as well as how to setup the data access layer using XPO. We’re going to take a little break from the Business Engine and start building the web application for our fictional airline company.

In this installment, we’ll setup the DX Airways website and go over how its different parts will be laid out, as well as how site navigation will work. Even if you are new to ASP.NET development, this video will serve as a good starting point to learn the basics of an ASP.NET application and how to create new pages and use Master Pages for a uniform look throughout the website.

As always, the video tutorial has been published to the DevExpress Channel. So click here or on the image to check it out!

Did you miss any of the previous videos?

All of the previous Real World Application tutorials are available on the DevExpress Channel. Here’s a list of what we’ve published so far:

  • Interview with Miguel Castro - Architect of DX Airways

We are here at TechEd 2009 and we decided to catch up with Miguel Castro on the DX Airways project. We also talked to him about his experience using our components and tools both for this application as well as his thoughts on using it for his projects as an independent developer.

  • At TechEd? Come see our XtraReports Demo!

DevExpress had its inaugural webinar on Friday where Joe Kunk talked about XtraReports, our .NET Reporting Suite. The webinar was a huge success and there was a tremendous amount of interest in the presentation.

If you are attending TechEd, Joe will also be at our booth Monday and Tuesday, so stop by to watch some of the XtraReports demos live or just to ask any questions you may have. We are at booth #201 and very hard to miss. ;-)

  • Recorded version of the Webinar now available!

  • Webinar 1.0: hindsight is a wonderful thing

Today, DevExpress held its inaugural Webinar on XtraReports. It was a great success, but, unfortunately, some of you were unable to access the event and received an error message stating that the room was full.

We don't have enough resources in-house to host such an event, and so we use an outside company for the purpose. All of these companies sell "blocks" of connections as part of the package. Since we completely underestimated the number of people who were interested in such a webinar, we didn't pre-purchase enough blocks. At the start of the webinar, we were more than twice over-subscribed and of course we tried to purchase extra blocks of connections. Unfortunately we were limited in that as well (these companies are value-adders, essentially reselling blocks from other primary companies), with the result that many people were unable to attend the webinar.

It goes without saying that this was not the experience we were trying to achieve. We thought we'd get a certain number of people, bought more connections than we needed, but in the end got many more attendees than we'd ever imagined in our wildest dreams. Nevertheless, the whole webinar was recorded and will be made available as soon as it's been properly rendered.

  • DevExpress Webinar THIS Week - Reporting

Mark your calendars and join us for this free, live webinar:

XtraReports – Resolving the Reporting Dilemma

Producing reports has traditionally been a tedious task at best.  XtraReports resolves the reporting dilemma by providing an advanced reporting tool integrated into Visual Studio that uses the same design techniques you are already accustomed to.   This webinar demonstrates the ease of producing reports with common business requirements such as parameters, conditional formatting, calculated fields, subreports, drill-down reports, and so on.  The End-User report designer is examined as a way to provide reporting capabilities to the end-user, allowing you to focus on more advanced (and interesting) reporting requirements.

Joining us for the webinar will be Joe Kunk. Joe is a Microsoft MVP and Senior Consultant at A. J. Boggs & Company of Okemos, Michigan.  He has been developing software solutions for education, business, and government for over 25 years.
