  • WPF Pivot Grid – Coming up in DXperience v2009.3

As you may have read on our blogs yesterday, Julian mentioned that we’ve been demoing the DXPivotGrid for WPF in our booth here at this year’s PDC. For interested parties, here are some screenshots from the beta version:

As I sit here at our booth typing this, the DevExpress CTO, Julian Bucknall, is also creating a blog post  about the first day at PDC. He had the advantage of having Windows Live Writer pre-installed on his machine, but a customer has come to my rescue and is keeping his attention drawn away from his blog.

Joking aside, today has been quite an exciting first day for us DevExpress staff as Platinum Sponsors at this year’s PDC 2009. I’ve been at our booth answering WinForms, WPF, XAF as well as general site questions that approaching customers have raised.

I’ll leave the “fun details” for Julian to present via his blog entry and move into my personal interaction with our customers with the hope that some of this information will benefit those who did not have a chance to be present at PDC.

As those who follow my blog might know, we have a project called “DX Airways”. It is a case-study to demonstrate step-by-step usage of both Windows and ASP.NET controls in the Developer Express suite. The project is covered as a step-by-step video tutorial series on the DevExpress Channel and can be accessed using the following link: DX Airways

There has been interest from the community as well as avid followers of the project at PDC to release the source code of the DX Airways project and while it is incomplete, we have indeed released it to CodeCentral along with a Knowledge Base article. The Knowledge Base article can be accessed via K20004 and the CodeCentral Example using E20008.

Another online feature that several customers have praised is our DevExpress Channel and the vast number of training resources it provides to them and their developers. So if you’ve never visited the DevExpress Channel, go check it out and let me know if you have any suggestions and/or comments.

The highlight of the day for us presenters and evangelists was of course that we got a chance to demo some of the new features that’s coming up in the DXperience 9.3.0 release.

So if you’re at this year’s PDC and haven’t stopped by the DevExpress booth, make sure you come over and see us with any questions or comments that you have as well as participate in the fun contest and give-away at our booth.

  • DevExpress Channel Contest is Over: Results

This is it folks, the contest is over! I must say, it was much quicker than I had expected. If you are just reading this post and have no idea which contest I’m referring to, here’s a quick overview:

Yesterday, I made a blog post asking readers to spot a continuity error in one of the latest videos posted on the DevExpress Channel. We had purposefully embedded the incorrect title and video preview on the following lesson: “Silverlight Menu – Bind Menu to XML using Code”. The error has now been corrected, but in case you missed it, here are two screenshots that show what we had done (click to enlarge)…

    Wrong Title Wrong Charts

It was quite interesting to see the attention to detail by some of our viewers. “Inconsistencies” such as differences in Amanda’s makeup were mentioned, while another viewer pointed out that the Internet Explorer search provider was set to Google in one video (as opposed to Bing in the other four).

All in all, it was a fun contest and I would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate. I’ll be contacting the 12 winners who pointed out the correct error to arrange for the shipment of the “DevExpress Swag Pack” that includes a multi-purpose DevExpress USB 4GB Flash Drive Pocket Knife and other valuable DevExpress gear. For the other participants who pointed out some other interesting inconsistencies that was not accounted for by us, I’ll try to arrange some cool swag for you guys as well.

Keep an eye on our blogs for other upcoming contests soon!

  • Contest Time: Video Continuity Error

    DevExpress Channel

Why does DevExpress have the best components and tools in the market? Because in addition to serious work, we also like to have fun! And as you may have noticed, we like to share some of that fun with you by running cool contests either on our site, in our booths at trade shows or on social networking sites such as Twitter & Facebook.

Well, it’s that time again and we’re running a contest that involves the DevExpress Channel. Here is how you can participate:

    • Watch the videos that are tagged with “Continuity Error” (Or click the link to see them in one place: http://tv.devexpress.com/Continuity%20Error.tags)
    • Spot a visual error in one of the videos that does not belong.
    • Once you have the answer, E-mail it to me at emilm@devexpress.com. (Please include your full name, the name of the video with the error and a short description of what the error is and what time to spot it on).

The first 12 (twelve) to correctly pinpoint the error and submit their correct answer via e-mail will receive a DevExpress Swag Pack that includes a multi-purpose DevExpress USB 4GB Flash Drive Pocket Knife and other valuable DevExpress gear.

And with that said, let the contest begin!

UPDATE: This contest has ended. For updates please refer to the following post: DevExpress Channel Contest is Over: Results
