Those of you who've seen this video - http://tv.devexpress.com/#DXhelmet;Fun.tag;1 - but were frustrated that we were only kidding around...will be glad to know that Mark has been hard at work on the technology and will be demonstrating use of the DX helmet in our booth...

    See you in Vegas

  • WinForms Data Editors - Search Lookup Editor (coming in v2010 vol 2)

Yesterday I previewed our upcoming WInForms Grid Find feature here.

We've incorporated this technology into a new data edtior  - the Search Lookup. As you can imagine, the control can be used on a standalone basis or as a cell editor within the XtraGrid.

With this, you now have a myriad of unique ways with which to present lookup information to your end-users when using DevExpress WinForms Controls. This new control will be extremely useful to those who have large lookups and want to provide users an easy way to filter the data contained therein - it's also a culmination of our experience writing lookup controls over the last 12 year...

On a side note...you'll be able to view the capability of this new control via the demos that ship with DXperience v2010 vol 2.

  • WinForms Grid - the New Find Feature (coming in v2010 vol 2)

With the upcoming release of the XtraGrid Suite, we'll introduce a new "Find" feature - a quick and easy way for your end-users to locate data displayed within the grid. Its implementation is straightforward...at design time, you'll specify the columns against which to filter (you can include all visible columns or restrict columns that should not be searched against). The Find feature uses the Like operator and looks something like this: "col1 like '%text%' or col2 like '%text%"

At runtime, your end users can activate the Find panel by pressing the CTRL + F key combinations (or you can enable it by default)...Once the Find Panel is visible, entering a few characters into the Find field executes the search.

A picture is worth a thousand words...so here's an animation demonstrating the new WinForms Grid Find Feature.

  • WinForms Scheduler and Calendar Reporting Enhancements (coming in v2010 vol 2)

The following are a few suggestions that have been implemented for the XtraScheduler Suite in the upcoming release...

S34357:  Reporting - Visible Weekdays - This new option allows you to specify the days of the week to be displayed within the Day View Time Cells Control. By using the VisibleWeekDays property, you no longer have to filter time intervals manually.

S34928: Reporting and the Timeline View - With the upcoming release, you'll be able to control how time cells are split across printed pages via the
"VisibleIntervalsSplitting" option. This option is usefull when the number of displayed intervals differs from one page to another. A typical scenario includes printing each month on a separate page.

S34616 :  Reporting - Vertical Resource Headers - We've introduced the ability to display captions horizontally by including new Options to the VerticalResourceHeaders and HorizontalResourceHeaders controls. The Options class - ReportResourceHeaderOptions - is derived form XtraScheduler SchedulerResourceHeaderOptions and allows you to control:

    • Image alignment
    • Image location
    • Text location
    • Image Interpolation mode

  • WinForms Property Grid Fixed Rows and Expressions (coming in v2010 vol 2)

I've previously mentioned this in a forum post, but here is a look at 2 new features being introduced in our WinForms Property/Vertical Grid - Fixed Rows and Expression Support.

    • Fixed rows give you the ability to fix data rows in much the same way as you fix columns within our WinForms Grid.
    • Unbound expressions give you the ability to calculate row values by specifying string expressions (similar to the equivalent feature in our WInForms Grid).

  • VCL - Chart View Enhancements (coming in the new version of the ExpressQuantumGrid)

As you all know, we're hard at work on the newest version of the ExpressQuantumGrid. Among the new features we'll introduce, are enhancements to the Grid's integrated Chart View.

    • Transparency for Area diagrams (GDI+ is required for this feature)
    • Empty point handling for Area & Lines Diagrams  (Support Center Issue ID = Q100583) (use gap or zero value when drawing empty points)
    • Stacked Area Diagram (Support Center Issue ID = Q100583)
