    Hi,

I just noticed DevExpress is offering free controls from the suite I purchased. I am totally pi....ed off over this. I think it's totally unfair for the paying customers. There is a reason why we are shelling out the dollars....for the competitive edge of our software. DevExpress should've at least inform the paying customers.

Which controls did you pay for? The XtraEditors library typically comes free with the XtraGrid, XtraBars and XtraScheduler suite anyways. I'm sure it's not really factored into the purchase price, so you're probably not really paying for something that they're giving away for free.

It's called marketing and a very common proctice.  Give away small things to entice people to buy the big things.  Works for a lot of companies and apparently has worked well for DevExpress.

     Brendon,

I still had to pay for one to get the free stuff. I purchased a Subscription. Factored into the purchase price or not, that was up to them (DevExpress). The bottom line is that I freaking paid to be ahead, that's why I am upset.

    Thank you.

Hey, sounds like you are really pi..........ed and unhappy

theres a money back gurantee after you purchased.

I suggest that you return the items you purchased and get a refund.

i suggest giving back ALL of the controls and find a "better" place (though there isnt one, so i dont see what you are complaining about).

in my mind, DevExpress can do whatever they like with my money, as long as i get the support for the controls i purchased and constant updates (which they do and is inbelievable) and the source code.  Plain and Simple.

In the end you are purchasing a license, you dont "own" the rights, if DevExpress decide to offer up a couple of free controls then good on them, this will increase their customer base, customers "should" purchase more controls, DevExpress hire more developers as their client base ramps up, add more products to the ever expanding suite, and in the end "we" the Clients WIN!  So its really a WIN WIN for everyone.

So to all at DevExpress.  Keep up the good work!

I bought Refactor! Pro on the strength of using the free Refactor! for VB. Prior to this I didn't even know that devexpress did refactoring tools!

The XtraEditors library is occaisionally offered for free, although they still seem to keep a non-free version available as well.

IIRC, the XtraEditors was/is available for free in the Visual Studio Industry Partners DVD, along with many other components from other companies. I believe this is where I had my introduction to DevExpress.
