Did you try the standard WebParts? I've examined the project you
gave a link to and found no significant differences between it and
the standard implementation. Or did I miss something?

 I think the main difference is that DropThings is slick and uses lots of AJAX functionality. The standard web parts really have not been updated since their initial release. What would be really nice is a good AJAX enabled layout manager and catalog selection control. Also, the ability to "lazy" load modules would be nice!
