Keybindings on swedish keyboard (Selection Increase in particular): Ctrl+Alt and Alt Gr is treated the same

    Hello,

I just tried and downloaded CodeRush for Visual Studio 2008. It looks great so far. I have some problems though that the keybindings conflict with keybindings on a swedish keyboard.

The Selection Increase function is used by pressing Ctrl+Alt+= which is fine. The problem is that CodeRush also catches Alt Gr+= to the same binding. Alt Gr (the Alt key to the right on the space key) is heavily used on a swedish keyboard, and in this example, Alt Gr+= is actually the backslash character. So with CodeRush installed I cannot type a backslash!

    1. Is this a bug? Ctrl+Alt should not be the same as "Alt Gr" IMHO.

    2. Can I change keybindings for CodeRush? I have looked but I cant find any settings.

    Regards

    Johannes

Follow these steps to get to the Shortcuts options page:

    1. From the DevExpress menu, select "Options...".
    2. In the tree view on the left, navigate to this folder:

    IDE

    3. Select the "Shortcuts" options page.

Hmm, that is a problem, because I don't have a DevExpress menu Smile

I will try and reinstall CodeRush to see if that helps...

Are you running the Full version of Coderush or the Xpress edition?

ok that makes sense then ( Kinda). I'm hearing that that is normal for the
Xpress edition (Don't know why though).

I'm still waiting for my VM to fire up to prove this but, I'm also hearing
that Ctrl+Shift+Alt will call up the options for you in Xpress Edition.

    See if that helps

Apologies . I only just noticed my Error.

I have now confirmed that CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+O (for options I guess) will open
the options screen in the Xpress edition.

    Johannes,

About (1): It isn't a bug, but rather how it works on Windows. The combination Ctrl+Alt is equivalent to Alt Gr. You can read more about it on e.g. Wikipedia, and you might also want to read this thread.

Ok, I see. Well, I remapped it to Shift+Ctrl+Alt++ so now it works for me. Too bad, it seems that it's possible to map distinct Alt Gr++ but not the other way around.

    Thank you for your help.

I think I may have a related problem. For me the expand selection short cut doesn't work at all. (ctrl+alt+= does nothing, neither does ctrlgr+=). ctrl+shift+alt+o doesn't open the dialog, but prints the character "Ó". I'm normally using a custom keyboard layout created in the MS keyboard layout creator, but I've also tried using the default UK keyboard layout with no different behaviour. Basically the ctrl+alt+= and I can't open the options dialog to change the shortcut...

Is there any other way to open the options, via a macro for example?

    Thanks

    Ben

I've managed to open the options dialog by editing one of the AppData\Roaming\CodeRush for VS .NET\1.1\Settings\IDE ini files (replaced a working shortcut with the Command=Options).

Turns out the expand selection was defined as num+ and num-, not alt+cltr+=...

     Not a bug??

    I must disagree.

I'm working with a Hebrew windows... nothing special. I can't use the bloody "+" key in the Num pad.

    For example, I want to do a i++ or just 5 + 3.

Whenever I click on the "+" it does the same as "Increase selection". I either have do Shift + "=" or Shift + "+"

Lucky me, I found this thread so now I can disable or change the keys combination that triggers the "increase selection"

The fact that Windows treats Alt Gr the same as Ctrl+Alt is not a bug. That's how it's supposed to work on Windows.

On the other hand, it would of course be better if DevExpress could avoid key mappings that interfere with non-US keyboards. It isn't an easy task, though, since there are so many different keyboard layouts. Keys are also placed differently, so what makes an easy shortcut on one keyboard layout, might be really awkward on another.

but I'm not doing an Alt Gr.

I'm just pressing the "+".  Why a so useful key like "+" is in the configuration as shortcut key in the first place?
