    I want to second the request.

    We are having a difficult time finding any automated testing tools that work with dev express controls.

    I would like to "third" this request!

    This is a must have! There will be a lot of momentum behind the new testing tools in the Visual Studio 2010 suite. The first component vendor to support this kind of testing by implementing the accessibility framework “properly” will get my money, hope it’s you guys.

    Just the request I was looking for!

    Please add this support ASAP so we can use Coded UI Tests to identify DevExpress controls and automate our tests. I have seen similar requests on Visual Studio forums also. A lot of people are eagerly awaiting an extension that they can use for this.

    Thanks.

    I started to use the new Coded UI Tests in VS2010 with DX controls, and I didn't run into any issue. What isn't working for you?

    We've started implementing Test Manager 2010 and Coded UI Tests here over the last few days. It's very erratic, to the point of being useless, in finding the controls correctly.

    Clicking a control, such as a text edit, will identify it correctly by name in the action recording.

    Typing into a text box will display: Type 'xyz' into 'Unknown Name' ...

    Trying to correct will then see MSAA identify it by name: Type 'xyz' into 'xyz'.

    Automating tests from a recording is impossible without re-writing the UI Map, and replaying actions in MTM2010 when working through iterations is also not possible.

    Is there any word on whether this is possible or will become available soon?

    We really want to use the Test Manager component of Visual Studio 2010 and it is currently impossible with most of our products being built using DevExpress controls. I have upgraded to version 10.1.4 of DXPerience but the behaviour is still the same.

    We would appreciate some sort of response from DevExpress on this subject.

    Alternativeley, can anyone else recommend any similar automated testing applications they have used with some degree of success with DevExpress components?

    There have been several requests/posts in the past to support HP Quick Test Pro and so far DevExpress has done nothing to support this testing tool, where other 3rd party control companies have.

    I am hoping that since Microsoft now has coded UI tests that DevExpress will support it very soon.

    I posted an official question to DevExpress support on this issue and the response I got was that it was not a high priority and they may look at it in the future.

    Here is the support ID: Q265723

    I replied with how do we find out the priority or help increase the priority as I am sure this is a big issue for a lot of people.  I am waiting on their response.

    Here is the response that they originally provided...

    == URL : http://www.devexpress.com/issue=Q265723

    == Subject : Q252891

    == Issue type : Question

    == Product Group : .NET

    == Product : All .NET WinForms Components == State : Processed (Answered) ("Answered" indicates that the question has been answered) == Previous State : Reviewed

    Hello Scott,

    Currently the priority of other suggestions is higher that the priority of the Q252891 one. This suggestion is not very popular, so, most likely, it won't be implemented in the nearest future. Please keep tracking it to be automatically notified when its state is changed.

    Thanks,

    Anatol

    I would just like to add my support of this request.  Our company is embracing automated testing in VS2010 and failure to identify Dev Express controls properly is severely hampering our efforts.  Thanks.

    That would be a great feature. We tried automated testing in VS2010 and were disappointed about the results. Please implement it asap. Thanks

     http://www.ranorex.com/ seems a partial solution - they offer a 4 week test - DevExpress Controls are claimed to be supported, however integration with TFS 2010 is not available after request.

    Anyone willing to test and report his experiences with the tool?

    Good Luck

    Walter

    Tried it last night. It doesn't seem to have any problem with interacting with DevExpress controls.

    I was able to create a test with the following steps:

    1. Authenticated with my application
    2. Searched for an item
    3. Opened the item found
    4. Edited a field on the item
    5. Opened up a list of changes audited
    6. Checked the grid to make sure the last change audited was the field I changed
    Therefore it had no problem whatsoever navigating the user controls or getting data out of them for validation purposes.
    I don't know what their status is in regards to Visual Studio 2010. I did find this however, so it may not be a problem...
    Regards,
    Simon

     I was aware of the cooperation with Visual Studio 2010, however, as I only have the Professional version and not Premium or Ultimate, no testing framework is included to be integrated with Team Foundation Server 2010. I searched for alternatives and found Ranorex (answering to my questions) and Silk4Net (ignoring 2 requests about their product). If someone is aware of other not too high priced testing tools for integration with TFS 2010 please let me know.

    Regards

    Walter

     It seems ridiculous that this is still not implemented. Testing is one of the foundations of development and I can't use one of the best functions in vs because the devex controls don't support them.

    Not happy.
