LookUpEdit drop down not saving changed value in new row editor - normal behaviour?

hello again, im new to this so pls bare with me. I have a lookupedit, that holds a binding list of objects When i change the drop down, it changes it to the newly selected item, but when it loses focus reverts back to the [edit value null].
