DevExpress VCL Subscription supports RAD Studio 10.1 Berlin

We recently released v15.2.5 of the DevExpress VCL Subscription to our subscribers. There were a couple of hidden new features in there, and I wonder how many people spotted them before reading this official announcement.

The first new feature was support for RAD Studio 10.1 Berlin, which was released a day or so ago. So if you have already installed RAD Studio Berlin (or are about to), you can immediately download v15.2.5, install it, and be productive in moments.

The second new feature is a new control, the Tile Bar Control. We were so pleased with the way this control turned out that we decided to publish it as part of a minor version so you could use it immediately in your applications, rather than having you wait for v16.1. So, what is a Tile Bar Control? Basically, the Tile Bar implements a tile-based menu. It consists of equal-sized tiles arranged in a single row.

Furthermore any tile can have a dropdown associated with it. In this case, the tile displays a dropdown button on the side. In the image above the Products and Customers have this dropdown. Here’s the result of clicking the button:

As can be deduced from looking at the images, the Tile Bar control is fully touch-capable.

To show how to use this new Tile Bar, we’ve added a new demo application: the Touch-enabled Hybrid sample application.

Please download v15.2.5, install into RAD Studio 10.1 Berlin, and take a look at this new control. Let us know what you think.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about!

Good job DevExpress.  Immediate support for the new version of Delphi really helps me feel like you still focus on your VCL products.  :)

Is there a hidden feature which provides Visual Studio 2013, 2015 docking styles  ?

Who needs a useless tile bar control ?

Great!

Bernd: I'll let the team comment on the docking styles question. As for the tile bar control, the reason we did it is because people asked for it. It's that simple.

Thank you !

This is what I'm talking about:

As far as I can see, your current VCL docking implementation hasn't been worked on for years and is completely missing the tabular side by side docking feature for "document windows" which has been implemented in Visual Studio 2013 and 2015

Looking forward to the new hidden feature in the next update...

I have a Delphi Ent. subscription do I installed Berlin the day it appeared.  I ran the DevExp installer (for which I have a subscription) to install the product for Berlin and nothing appeared.  So just thought you had did not support it yet.

Today, DevExp notified me of an update so I was sure this woudl correct the Berlin issue.

I just read it and still no install for Berlin!!

Larry: please make sure you have downloaded DevExpress VCL v15.2.5 or v15.2.6 (which was released today) and use that. Previous versions (v15.2.4 or earlier) do not support RAD Studio Berlin.

Also: my advice is to not publish your serial number details for RAD Studio publicly. I've edited your comment to remove it.

Howdy All!

I appreciate the hard work of the Dev Express team! The new Tile Component I believe I can actually use in my next module which is going to be a "moron" touch screen like interface for my main programs <lol>!

Julian I have a question though (not the dreaded Fire Monkey support), but....

Any news on when the ASP/.NET like HTML editor will be available for VCL users? I REALLY CAN USE THAT (going on 10+ years)!

Thanks again!

Shane

I'm still waiting for the developer comment on a Visual Studio 2013/2015 docking implementation.

When will that happen ?

22 May, 2016

Bernd: For v16.1, no. We'll be discussing what to do for v16.2 once the release is published.

Cheers, Julian
