DevExpress Declared ComponentSource Bestseller: Let’s Celebrate with an Easter Egg!

DevExpress were named as the Number One ComponentSource Publisher

[UPDATE 19th April 2010: This contest has now closed. Thanks to all who participated and those of you who left such kind comments below. The winners will be announced this week – keep your eyes on the blogs! ~ Rachel]

Last week ComponentSource, one of the most frequented online component resellers, announced their 20Follow me ....9 -2010 Bestseller Awards.

We’re very happy to share with you that DevExpress was declared ComponentSource’s Bestselling Publisher and DXperience was awarded their Bestselling Product.

DXperience was ComponentSource's Number One selling product in 2009In addition, out of over 10,000 individual products listed on ComponentSource, the DevExpress VCL Subscription also featured in the Top 75 products – Delphi development is most certainly alive and well!

To celebrate with all of you, the customers and enthusiasts that trusted us and our products and made us the ComponentSource Bestsellers, we’re celebrating with a belated Easter egg hunt.

Now, I don’t know about you but if I see another chocolate egg I may turn an unnatural shade of green and keel over on top of the Easter Bunny! So with the Easter weekend celebrations and religious rejoicing now over, DevExpress are continuing the egg-related festivities with a more appropriate Easter egg hunt.

We’re offering two lucky winners the chance to win their choice of either a copy of DXperience Universal or a copy of the VCL Subscription package.

All you need to do is:

    • Find the egg hidden on this page and follow it to its destination - there you’ll find a series of 3 images that will look a little out of place
    • Work out the “password” from the 3 images (I’ll give you a hint: say eggsactly what you see)
    • Email your answer to me at rachelh@devexpress.com with “ComponentSource Easter Egg” in the subject line and leave a note in the comments below to encourage other to get involved

Egg-ceptionally easy!!! Ha!

This competition will close at 5pm (PDT) on Friday April 16th 2010, after which the two winners will be randomly selected from the entries. We’ll announce the two prize winners the following week and in issue 26 of DX Press: The DevExpress Newsletter.

The first one had me stumped for quite a while. Looked to much like he knew what he was doing but then I thought of myself. Looks can be deceiving!

I hope the award news sounds a good note for our VCL customers too!

Glad you guys are enjoying another contest. I can't believe some of you have found it so confusing ... Gary assured me that the password would be a doddle :)

Am I supposed to recognise the person?

I think I got it - that was really fun. Thank you :)

8 April, 2010
Toni Wenzel

Another great egg hunt. Felt like Indiana J. :)

8 April, 2010

That was fun. Had me stumped looking for the egg in the wrong place for a while, there (I'm pretty dumb in the morning apparently).

8 April, 2010
Uwe Porsch

I did it but not sure whether I got it ;-)

8 April, 2010

Also had no idea who the person was but enjoyed it just the same.

I think I solved the puzzle... hope I get a prize!

try it, it's not toooo hard!

8 April, 2010
Rachel Hawley (DevExpress)

@ Steve Sharkey

You don't necessarily need to recognise him, he's more a representation ... but it if helps it's Scott Guthrie:)

8 April, 2010
Tim LeForge

Wow.  Awesome hints.  Not too easy and not too difficult.  That was fun.

I use your Winform controls and absolutely love them.  Saves a lot of time and offers plenty of features and flexibility.  Great Product!

8 April, 2010
Scott Isaacs

Took me a couple minutes, but now it's obvious.  If you "think" you got it right, you didn't.  If you "know" you got it right, you did.

8 April, 2010
Data Team

Took me 2 days, but finally got it.  I agree with Scott's comment, you'll "know" when you get it.

8 April, 2010
Rachel Hawley (DevExpress)

As Brad says, sage advice from Scott: you'll know, when you know!

Pleased to see so many people getting it right now ... some of you have been so so close.

I think someone needs to help our dear Julian out though. He still claims the password is "Red polo - eggs - finger" ... deary me ...

8 April, 2010
Grant Levy

Great contest.  Once I figured out the what and not the who it clicked for me.

8 April, 2010
Tim O'Connell

Took me a week and a half to figure this one out. Once I decoded the Hieroglyphs dyed on the egg, I was halfway there.

8 April, 2010
Matt Theule

I hope the password is not case sensitive.  :)

8 April, 2010
LOVE2GET

I excatly agree with you

8 April, 2010
Jose Ojeda

This it’s kind of hard for the people on countries who do not celebrate Easter

8 April, 2010
Folz

Thanks for the break.  Gotta get your head outta the code every now and then.

8 April, 2010
Robert Kemp

Made a guess based on previous comments (thanks everyone) and the clues. Not sure if I'm right or not but I made an attempt. : )

8 April, 2010
Max DV

My God, my english is soo bad... Any idea to help me?? i think i dont understand what i to do in this contest :(

Please, in name of Love, help me...

;)

8 April, 2010
Mark Miller (DevExpress)

Hi Max,

Hint: The first guy looks like some kind of coder/programmer to me (it's not his name that matters). And the last picture is not a click, finger, hand, but something else you can do with your finger. Oh, and when you figure out the answer you'll know it.

8 April, 2010
Dusan Majkic

Image names contain more hits.  Nice game.

8 April, 2010
Nick Portelli

Wow that made me feel stupid.

8 April, 2010
Gregor Stamac

Done. See if you can do it too. Yeah you. Oh and the hint is: Don't think of Easter bunny.

8 April, 2010
Shais Rosenblatt

I think the contest was pretty easy, unless the "password" is case-sensitive (as Matt Theule mentioned) or it contains punctuation (as in the word "Egg-ceptionally").

8 April, 2010
Charles Hutchings

Gee, Mark, why don't you just tell everyone the answer?

;)

8 April, 2010
Bryan

I'm so lost, I have an idea but you guys say you'll "know" which just throws me off...

8 April, 2010
Rob

Got it! That was a lot of fun - took me a second and I'll give you a hint. If you have Google Goggles on your phone, take a picture of the hand and see what you get back. Between that and Mark's comment, it all worked out.

8 April, 2010
Bryan

And my downside, I know exactly who he is (I work at MS) and that isn't helping me any... I'm sure I'm over complicating it though.

8 April, 2010
Mike Leigh

Done!

8 April, 2010
Brian D. Hopper

Wow, a red shirt!  Does that mean he's a security officer?  Don't stand near him... redshirts tend to die quickly!

He ISN'T a security officer?  Wait... I KNOW!!!

8 April, 2010
Jim Clay

Man - I was getting caught up on a couple of things, but finally figured it out.

8 April, 2010
Duncan

Great comp thanks I think it used my last brain cell  :)

8 April, 2010
Zethcon Corporation

Don't overthink it...

8 April, 2010
R Cox

Gads... interpretations... I'll email my 'list' of what I thought it would be.

I asked my daughter what she thought and she came up with something totally different.

Interesting.

8 April, 2010
werner

Great idea I must confess that when I fount out it is so really simple that I laughed at least for 5 mins.

8 April, 2010
Chris Cochran

Cool puzzle. A little too easy, though.

C'mon, guys... We're brainy nerds here! Remember, we not only created the Y2K problem but we solved it, too! You can get the answer to this.

8 April, 2010
BrandonHunt

>If you "think" you got it right, you didn't.  If you "know" you got it right, you did.

^ This.

That was a fun diversion.  Thanks for all the great widgets!

8 April, 2010
Scott Anderson

Interesting but do you score any points for cryptic answers?

8 April, 2010
David Preston Ward

You need to stop thinking to answer this one..

8 April, 2010
Jerry Keyes

I'll admit it, I had to cogitate on this one a bit! Thanks for the fun though.

8 April, 2010
Phillip Roux

Great competition, took me a few goes on the last image to put together - nicely done!

8 April, 2010
Christian

Oh my~ I can't believe it took me the whole of 2 days!

Take care not to "wander too far from here", and note the hints from the DevExpress guys; they are very telling! Heheh...

8 April, 2010
R Cox

Oh my word...

The answer is obvious 'AFTER' you finally get it.

But getting there was actually a struggle without tips along the way...

Good one though...

8 April, 2010
Allen R. Chan

Password sent. Thanks for the 5 minutes of fun, and Congratulations!!

8 April, 2010
Winston Hope

This was not on the difficult scale. I followed the only available paths, to me.

9 April, 2010
rab

This was a nice egg finding

9 April, 2010
Peter Tewkesbury

Thanks for all the great controls. Congrats on the award.

The secret is to say what you see.... I think I got it :)

Good luck to all.

9 April, 2010
Steven Tudor

9 April, 2010
Django Dunn

I struggled with this one for a while.  At 3am, last night, I woke up, figured it out and went to sleep.  When I woke up in the morning I had a panic because I couldn't remember it! Lol!

9 April, 2010
Pete Sykes

GROAN!!  It's really not difficult after all!

9 April, 2010
Jeremy Knowles

That's funny, once it clicked.

9 April, 2010
Bas Mommenhof

Had me going for a while, but I think I have it.

9 April, 2010
Monte Foltz

Found It, I kept overlooking it.

9 April, 2010
Craig Nicol

Took me a while to get it, and now I have, I feel a little slow :-(

9 April, 2010
Rich M

Arrrg! Took me way to long to figure it out. Had the right idea initially but just wasn't able to put the words together. Thanks for the contest!

9 April, 2010
Matt D

yep, overthought that one for a while.

Nice diversion for a friday.

9 April, 2010
Tom Seeberger

Clever Puzzle, took me a couple of minutes.

The jpg names help.

9 April, 2010
Rachel Hawley (DevExpress)

Aww Craig! That's the fun of a puzzle though you ask yourself why you didn't see it sooner.

Thanks for all the great compliments and kind words about the awards guys. I'll have to start thinking of new contest ideas before anymore gongs come along!

9 April, 2010
Eric Olsson

This was fun!  The best hint is that you'll know it when you get it.  Mark helped to push me over the top to get it.

Fun puzzle.

10 April, 2010
Al Scott

That's difficult! I gave it go, you shoud too!!

11 April, 2010
Christian Desrosiers

Good idea!

Congratulations for beeing the Bestseller.

Keep up the good work!

12 April, 2010

I will admit it, I am a slow person, I just got it.

Amazing how you can over think things.

Congrats to DX, and shame on me ;)
