I’ve recently realized what great help DevExpress provides to its users in the form of examples! One of the biggest challenges in learning a new framework/new control suite/new* is time! Sure one could read through documentation, but in the age of instant gratification this is quite time consuming. Another challenge of downloading a sample is ensuring that all the references are correct as well as compatibility with your current version of Visual Studio. To alleviate these problems, DevExpress has created a sample runner (which evidently has been around for a while!). Whenever you go to support.devexpress.com and do a search, you see three tabs after executing a search. Today we will focus on the Code Central Examples tab:
Once you click on the example you want to see, there are two icons at the top:
The Example Runner is a piece of software that takes our examples and gets them to a usable format (on your machine). Once you have this installed, all you need to do is click the “Download Example” icon and run it. The Example Runner software does the rest. Here is a video illustrating it (less than 2 minutes!):
