End-User Report Designer 101: Training Video For End-Users

Check out this video which introduces the basics of the End-User Report Designer. The end-user can learn about the design surface, elements, and data source of the End-User Report Designer. Before you know it, your users will be editing and creating their own reports. Oh and feel free to use this video as a training tool for you end-users.

Click the image below to check out the video:

You can also Download this movie or use this direct link to reference the video: http://tv.devexpress.com/ReportDesignerOverview.movie

So watch the video and share it with your end-users so they can learn the power they have at their fingertips. Then drop me note here on how many more reports the end-users are creating and maintaining.

Mehul,

Great idea - thank you. At the risk of sounding ungrateful (which I am definitely not), do you have plans to do the same for usage of your other tools and components such as grids, pivot grid, charts, XAF application usage (navigation, report creation, permission editing...) etc.? Would be a real boon for us.

Cheers,

Jascha

I'm not sure if this is going to be useful to me or not. I'd really much rather have a printed manual that I could then edit to fit my specific product, to address the specific issues that customers will see with MY products. If we could get a basic "how to use" document written for an end user that we could modify, it would be much more helpful to me

Hi Jascha,

Thanks. There are lots of videos on the tv.devexpress.com site and we'll keep producing more Smile. If there is a specific feature/product that you want to see then please email me and I'll see if we can produce a video for it.

i got a tad enthusiastic when i saw the asp.net tag on this video, but alas, no such luck, so i must ask, is this tag a teaser for something soon to come? ☺

Tag? What tag? Smile

Sorry Drew, just mis-tagged. I know what you're referring to but it's not the plans yet (afaik).

Hi Charles,

Check out the following link for documentation on the End User Report Designer: www.devexpress.com/issue=A1248. We are currently working on the end-user documentation and hope to have it finished it soon.

Mehul, that tech document was created in 2005 and last updated in 2007 - so I'm not holding my breath that we'll see it soon. However, I always have hopes. Don't misunderstand me, I like your products very much, and your company is always responsive to problems in the code...

Hi Mehul,

I will send you a mail with some suggestions.

I think that Charles' suggestion re. editable documentation sounds promising. Basically usage documentation that we could tailor to our particular products could well prove very useful indeed and, AFAIK, a USP for DX. I guess that one of the difficulties with turning this into a reality is that there is no DX reference application that could form the basis for the documentation. I.e. a sufficiently broadly scoped DX application showcasing the product set that could have a user manual written for it with the emphasis on usability. There seems to be some interest in something like this for XAF (community.devexpress.com/.../the-expressapp-application-framework-project-mojave-and-show-stoppers.aspx) and maybe that could double up as a vehicle for such documentation. I do not know whether that is a realistic proposition from your perspective but, either way, some editable usability docuemntation that could form a template would be very welcome.

Yes, I think the same.
