  • Fahrenheit VCL

    Reading between the lines is not fun. After all, what's there is merely implied and not made explicit: it's just blank space with BackColor = clWhite. Seeing anything involves looking askance, or perhaps with prior expertise. And that's what I feel like when I read the news coming from CodeGear...

  • Thinking through some necessary changes to our VCL suite

    At a recent meeting with the VCL team here at Developer Express, I led a discussion on what we might do over the next few months to drive the native VCL products forward. This meeting was also a result of some other discussions I've been having with various interested VCL customers. In essence, it...

  • C++Builder 2007 with Update 2 now fully supported with Build 27

    To say this has been a episodic saga to rival Dickens seems to be an understatement. First we had an issue with the initial release of C++Builder 2007: in essence the compiler would produce invalid structures that did not match up to our compiled Delphi code, resulting in a nasty crash at run-time. Then...

  • More delays with C++Builder 2007 bug fix

    Remember this blog post ? Well, CodeGear released update 2 for both Delphi 2007 and C++Builder 2007 yesterday. That was the good news. Here's the bad news. This update does not contain the fix for this bug.To quote Nick Hodges from b.p.d.non-tech: "This bug was marked fixed on 24 July, after...

  • Using our ASP.NET controls in CodeGear RAD Studio 2007

    Just thought I'd pass this along, in case you were wondering how it's done. It's from Plato in our support team (thanks, Plato!): To add our ASP.NET controls to the component palette in RAD Studio 2007, invoke the Installed .NET Components dialog, go to the Assembly Search Paths tab and add...

  • State of trial for Delphi?

    I know that currently DevExpress is not offering trial editions for Delphi, but wonder if that is soon to change. I'm thinking in present a project for my local government for a social (no in the sense of Web 2.0, but in the humman sense) software to help people get out of debt. But I lack as today...

  • Re: Moving from D7 to VS 2008

    Luke, My team made the switch from D7 to VS2005 (C#) a few years back. I second Rinat's suggested tools and add a few more to the list... AnkhSVN (it's a VS plugin for working with Subversion) -- this tool is very useful but oftem "misses" files if you have many projects in your solution...

  • Codegear VCL future boosted by Embarcadero takeover

    the good news is Codegear will be acquired by Embarcadero Technologies which is a boost for the 3+ million loyal 'borland' developers out here. Could DevExpress confirm that we will given as much importance for components as for other IDEs. For example, i'd like to try XtraReports for Delphi...

  • Good Luck to CodeGear

    A couple of days ago, David I, Anders O and Christine Ellis were nice enough to touch base with me to briefly discuss the news most of our Delphi/C++Builder customers already know...that Borland sold it's CodeGear division to Embarcadero. Here's hoping that the new chapter in the product line...

  • Knock Knock...Delphi Developers

    A couple of weeks ago I blogged about the impending beta of our Delphi 2009 compatible components. With about 90 replies, we figured the minute the beta hit the airwaves, we'd be flooded with feedback and comments... ...But we are still waiting. To everyone using D2009 and beginning to port projects...
